Paralyzed is defined as a person or a part of a person that is incapable of movement.

Most people associate this term to a physical inability, a disability of some sort. This got me thinking the other day of things that actually “paralyzes” us emotionally and spiritually. Things that disable our ability to do our job as people of Faith. What I mean by this is that we, as the people that believe in the existence of God, technically speaking, we have one major job: To worship the God that we believe in.

“You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God.” (Exodus 20:3-5)

Let’s think about that for a second. Regardless of religion or faith that you follow – if you do follow one – isn’t it that as a follower your first obligation or duty is to worship who you follow? After all, if you are not worshiping, then you are most likely doing something that isn’t related to the glorification of your God.

If the reason behind your action is anything other than worshiping God, then that reason falls short to what your primary purpose of existence is.

We are all here to worship. We are all here connected to one another to help each other worship better. I hate to simplify it or make it sound so easy but really in a Christians life, it’s either your worshiping or you’re not. Because isn’t that the whole point of reading the scriptures and going to church on Sundays?

To be able to learn more about the greatness of God and His love for us so that we can in turn be better worshipers?

So, what then prohibits our ability to worship God every day? If the whole point of studying the scriptures and going to mass and listening to videos and reading books is to be one in worship to God, why are we as a nation consistently struggling with it?

I think we literally struggle with this because we become paralyzed within our own minds. We become incapable of worship when we become paralyzed with our own attachments. It’s like when you really want something at the mall but didn’t have the money for it or maybe you saw an ad on tv that got your really hooked to this thing that they’re advertising about but you know you just can’t afford it right now. You keep thinking about it, you keep pondering and figuring out how to get it. Or when you are really craving for your favorite cheesecake or ice cream, you get stuck on that thought. You can’t seem to get to the next stage of your life unless the craving is satisfied and thereby paralyzing you from moving on.
I know these examples are small and stupid but think about the small stuff that limit you big time in your life. That takes your time away from worshiping God. That disables you from being able to invest more time towards studying the scriptures or just enjoying the fruits of God’s sacrifices for you because you are so stuck and paralyzed within your own desires.

Some of us have been paralyzed our entire adulthood. Since we got out of our homes, our childhood experience has trapped us in a dogma that we can’t get over from. Disabling our ability and limiting our potential to enjoy the fruits, I mean really enjoy the fruits and the rewards of being a Believer. Of just enjoying the Gift of Life itself.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

That’s the whole Nugget of the Scriptures if you ask me. God already took care of the enemy, he already “won” the battle for us so that we can just enjoy the fruits of His sacrifices and show some admiration for the sacrifices by worshiping Him, by nurturing our relationship with Him, by loving Him.

But what do we do? We get stuck. We get paralyzed on a daily basis of the things that in the end, DOESN’T EVEN MATTER.

We waste so much time being Martha when all we gotta do is be like Mary and sit right at Jesus feet and listen and enjoy his presence (Luke 10: 38-42).

How many times do you worry about your rent? How many times do you waste your energy pondering about what your friends said in Facebook? How often do you sit around the house bickering at your spouse or at your children because they didn’t wash the dishes? How much time are you wasting doing this “stuff” as opposed to doing your primary job of Worshiping and Enjoying all the things that God has provided you?

Worship and Enjoy! That’s the good news! That the great news of the Scriptures if you ask me! I mean take a step back – just pause for a minute – really think about this okay. You’re a person of Faith (which is why I’m assuming your reading my article – you believe in God) – so if you believe in God and you recognize His existence – wouldn’t it make sense that as a believer you would spend your time worshiping Him? Loving Him? Understanding Him? And Glorifying Him?

It’s like me being hired as an Accountant but when I get to work, I go and do Marketing and Sales work. It doesn’t make any sense, does it? The boss that hired me from the Accounting Team wouldn’t be happy. They would be scratching their heads trying to figure out what the hell I’m doing. Don’t you think it’s the same for God upstairs? He’s probably scratching His head all the time we ponder off and worry about “stuff” and do things other than Worship and Enjoy Him.

We are Worshipers. That’s our job title. That’s what we are here to do. And each time we do anything else – like bicker about a friend, gossip, worry, stress – we are acting something completely different than what our Job Description says.

And when payday comes, we are not going to be judged based on what we did – we are going to be judged based on our Belief. How much Faith did we have? How much Belief did we show in this life? Because if you really Believe what the Scriptures says then really, we wouldn’t be wasting anytime on other “stuff” – we would just be so JOYFUL of His Presence and of His Gift that we would spend the rest of eternity Thanking Him, Worshiping Him, and Glorifying Him.

Do it for God. Do everything for God. Wash dishes for God. Wake up in the morning and glorify God the moment your eyes can see your sheets. Thank Him for giving you another day. Thank Him for allowing the existence of your being. Make Him a part of every breath that you take because He is up there waiting for us to notice Him. Like a Father waiting for His child to come back, like a Shepherd waiting for His sheep to come back, God is waiting on us to come to him (daily).

God never abandoned you, despite of whatever circumstances you’ve gone through – death, break up, divorce, abuse, rape – God has always been there with you. Bad things are always going to happen, it’s an ingredient of Faith. You will not have the chance to exercise Faith if bad things never happened. So, it’s always going to happen, we must therefore buckle down and be prepared for them through and with God.

We must be in constant Worship if we ever wanted our lives to be in Constant Peace.
Worship is the expression of Reverence to someone. And Reverence is defined as deep respect for someone.

If we are to be Worshipers, respecting God’s commandments and obeying His will comes with the Job description. It’s a natural byproduct of it. Which is why every dogma, every writer, every priest and or pastor that you meet always tells you that when you read the scriptures and follow God’s will, you will find Peace. You will find Peace because through worshiping God, you are doing exactly what you were made to do and thereby, your heart, body, and soul will all naturally find Peace as you are finally having that piece of cake or scoop of ice cream that you’ve been longing for.
Amen?

God, I hope and pray that the above helps people that read it. I thank you Lord for giving me these words this morning. I am no one without You, we are no one without You. May the words above help us understand You better and help us seek You more in our lives. May each breath from this day on be a breath we take for You. This we pray in Your son’s glorious name, Jesus – Amen.
